| I thought about writing my biography (auto) from a third person point of view, you know, Randy Metherd was born in Denver Colorado…blah blah blah but then I thought I’d much rather speak (write) to you than make it sound like some full-of-themselves journalist writing about the famous Randy Metherd. After all, I’m not famous and a jourmalist is not writing this- I am. So, like I said, I was born in Denver, December 3rd, 1964 which of course makes me a Sagittarius (for those of you who care about that sort of thing). I am the oldest of four childern, (ooops, there goes my Colorada accent. Make that children) Michelle, Melinda and David. I am the only bald one of the bunch, which my sisters are particularly happy about. I spent most of my childhood growing up in a tiny town called Franktown, which at the time was considered country living even though we weren't really "country folk." When I graduated high school, we moved to Montana where my father and I started a business and a few years later sold it to buy another in Washington state. Fifteen years later I found myself wanting to do something else and am currently taking college classes until I decide what I want to be when I grow up. I started playing the guitar when I was twelve years old, inspired by my Uncle Larry who is a bluegrass style guitarist. I was about 23 when I started playing music semi-professionally with my first cover band, which was Illustrated Man and later became I-Man. After a year or so, I-Man stopped playing out as a cover band and eventually became a project band as we started writing our own material. In about that same time, I joined another cover band (started by Joe Walling who also got I-Man started) called Salmon Dave in which Brad and Mike play as well. Both bands are still going strong and it seems to keep my musical thirst quenched--although, I would like to be more creatively active. As far as the kind of music I like, I enjoy almost all styles: jazz, rock, blues, soul, and some country, classical, foreign ...really just about any kind of music that's well done. Let's see, what else can I tell you, my favorite color is blue, I like sushi and mexican food, and well, just about all food except for beets. I am pretty sure there is a secret society using some ancient and obscure arcane formula to make beets out of mud pies. If you don't believe me, get a shovel and go dig a whole in the ground and stick your head in it and take a big whif...hmmmm...essence of beets! I am only kidding...kind of...I don't want to get sued by the united beet association. Let's see, I love the outdoors (even though I don't get out enough) I like the to go the movies, I like a good wine and sardonic humor. My favorite actor is Gary Oldman, my favorite band is Led Zeppelin or Pink floyd, (although my favorite band to see live is Nickel Creek who is also one of my outright favorites). My favorite actress is Reese Witherspoon since Walk the Line...I just fell in live with her in that movie. My favorite singer is, well too many to mention really, but the top few starts with K.D.Lang, Sara Watkins, Paula Cole, and Allison Krause. I also love Dianna Krall and what a fabulous piano player she is. As far as male singers, I like Jonny Lang, Sting, and John Mayer who is one of my fovorite guitar players as well. I am also a huge Stevie Ray Vaughan fan. I was fortunate enough to see him live at the Gorge in Washington state and I will always miss him. I am a huge Stevie Wonder fan as well. Wonder wrote one of my favorite songs, I Wish. Well, I think that's enough about me other than say God has blessed me with good friends and family (never been married and no children... yet...) and I feel fortunate to live where we have the liberties that I too often take for granted. Merry Christmas and god bless us every one.Tiny Tim |
